How to Get Rid of Coyotes?

Because of the predation habit of coyotes, some people treat them as pests. They can pose a threat to our pets and our livestock. In case you are concern on the presence of the coyote in the neighborhood, and you are looking for ways on how to get rid of them, you are reading the right article. Normally, they will be cautious when there is a sign of human presence, but once they understand that there is nothing to be afraid of, they may choose to invade our property.

Essential Tips When Getting Rid of Coyotes
Similar with the other wildlife species, there is probably something inside your yard that is attracting the coyotes. There may be scraps of food lying in your trash, or they are probably stalking their prey. You will be able to discourage them from invading your property by doing some countermeasures.

Limit Their Food Access
Trimming the vegetation in your yard will limit their capacity to stalk on their prey that will discourage them from entering your yard. In case you are giving your pets some food outside, make sure to remove it when there’s no one around. It will eliminate the temptation and will keep your pets safe. Check your trash can, make sure that it is tightly covered. Limit the kind of compostable items that you place on your pile of compost; avoid adding food items. The small pets should also be kept inside the house especially during nighttimes.

Create Loud Noises
When there is a coyote in your property, this means that the wildlife creature has become too comfortable in your presence. Once you see it, draw its attention towards you by waving. If you are sure that it is looking towards you, create a loud noise that will shock the creature. Your goal is to be as scary as possible. You may shout, jump, or stomp your feet.

Sound Deterrents
As we mentioned above, coyotes do not like loud sounds. You may use whistles, bells, and horns to discourage these creatures. In the event that the coyote refused to leave your property even after doing this, slowly approach the creature while creating loud sounds. The coyote will definitely run but if it stops on some point, continue pursuing it.

Using Projectile
Throwing something in the location of the coyote without the intention of hitting the creature can actually scare them. You can use stick, rocks, balls, or plastic containers that you will find in your bin. Spray bottle and squirt guns may be helpful. You may use a mixture of water and vinegar instead of using regular water. A garden hose can also be use to drive the creature away.

Using the tactics that we mentioned above can help you scare away the coyotes. There are instances that the coyotes will return again and again but you have to continue using these deterrents. For an extremely persistent coyote, you may want to seek the help of the expert that will solve your issue once and for all.
