Is a Coyote That Is Active during the Daytime Sick or Rabid?

Coyotes are not nocturnal animals. This means that you can find them during the daytime, as well as throughout the night. Although they do not typically go out and about in the middle of the day, they can always be spotted walking down the street or approaching their food.



So you should not worry, even if you see an active coyote during the day. It does not automatically mean that it is sick or rabid. Of course, you should not rule out this possibility either. Any time you spot a coyote, it is bad news, and there is no difference if it is day or night. They are predators, and they will most likely want to feed. So you need to be very careful.

What to Look For?
If you do not want coyotes running around your back yard and approaching your property, there are several things you should do. First of all, secure your premises with the use of a fence. In this way, you will be able to keep them off for a long time. Then, it is always advisable not to leave pet food unattended at the porch. The coyote will smell it and come running to have a taste.

Warning Signs of a Sick or Rabid Coyote
A coyote that is sick or rabid will behave weird. For instance, the coyote will be disorientated, and it will appear off. It will not be able to walk straight, and it will be confused all the time. Above anything else, it will give out the sense of a terrified yet greatly threatening animal.

When you see foams coming from the coyote’s mouth, then this is definitely a warning sign you should pay attention to. In fact, you need to call the authorities and let them handle with the rabid coyote. Otherwise, you would be risking your health state and the welfare of you, your family and your livestock.

The coyote is not nocturnal. So this allows the coyote full freedom. It can be awake and active during the day and in nighttime. As a result, just its presence in the day does not indicate any trouble other than the usual.

Just remember that a coyote is pretty much a wild dog and do not be excessively afraid of it. Treat it as a potentially harmful animal that needs special attention and you will be fine.
