Mole Repellent

Some of you might think that it is not necessary to get rid of the moles in your lawn. They can help in controlling the population of insects and grubs on our yard. However, moles can dig holes that are not only unsightly but can also damage the foundation of our property if they dig closely to our houses. In addition, it can also damage the root system of our plants. Moles can create two types of tunnels; the raised burrow in your lawns or the feeding tunnels and the deeper tunnel that appears like tiny volcano. In order to prevent the wildlife infestation, some people believe that placing mole repellent on the tunnels can discourage them from invading your property.

The Different Types of Mole Repellents
In this article, we will highlight the various types of mole repellents and analyze if they are effective or not.

Water and Castor Oil
Some people choose to combine the castor oil with water believing that it will work against mole infestation. The traditional recipe is relatively simple to replicate, you will need ¾ of water for every ¼ of castor oil. The mixture will then be poured directly on the burrow of the mole. One reason why this repellent does not work is due to the fact that water and castor oil will evaporate quickly once it is exposed on the outside environment. You will have to do this process numerous times during the day in order to see a desirable result.

Mint Oil or Eucalyptus Oil
This is a safe repellent compared to using chemical repellent that release toxic fumes in the air that can irritate your respiratory tract. The strong scent of the eucalyptus led the people to believe that it can prevent mole infestation. When using this repellent, homeowners will soak the cotton balls into the mint oil or eucalyptus oil and place the cotton balls inside the holes. Unfortunately, just like castor oil, it will evaporate quickly. In addition, the mole can easily adapt on the scent of the mixture. They are persistent creature, and they will choose to stay inside the hole rather than to leave and find another habitat since it can drastically affect their rate of survival.

Commercial Repellents
There are significant amounts of mole repellent products sold in gardening stores. You need to be aware about the efficacy of the repellent before you choose to invest on these types of repellents. Another thing to consider is that most of them release toxic fumes that can also affect the health of the family members and pets.

Due to the low level of efficacy of repellents and the dangers that it presents, we encourage you to use the trapping method when getting rid of the moles in your property. You may also seek the help of the experts when eliminating moles. They can help you establish preventative methods that will help you avoid future infestation. They are also armed with tools and equipments needed to extract the moles safely from their holes.
