Mole Hills and Mole Tunnels

Moles are probably one of the best diggers among the living things classified as rodents. When they infest your field, your crops are at risk since they will eat the roots and stems of the crops. More damage is that they dig a lot taking away the soil while digging mole tunnels, and hence they cause soil erosion. Further, they will create molehills on your land, and therefore the field will have small hills. This is worse when they infest the household, and they dig up on your lawn. The hard work you had done and the investment in the landscaping will soon be going down the drain causing you double loss because of the digging done by the moles creating a molehill in your compound. So

What Is a Molehill?
A molehill is a cone-shaped mound of loose soil that is raised to the surface by the moles while digging mole tunnels. While the moles are looking for hiding places and food to feed on, they will dig underground, and the molehills are the result on the ground. The molehills in your compound are one of the signs that you have rodents on your farm or the home compound. Therefore whenever you see them, you should begin looking for a way of trapping the moles living underground immediately. Otherwise, they will dig molehills on the most parts of your lawn causing a huge damage as already illustrated.

Mole Hills Are Sometimes Beneficial to Land Owners
The molehills are advantageous to the landowner since they help in airing the soil. When moles dig under the soil, they will create tunnels and when the air enters from one side of the tunnel, and then the underground receives air which is believed to be advantageous to the soil. Also, the moles will sometimes help in tilling especially when they create molehills trying to eat roots of weeds. The practitioners of permaculture value the molehills for these reasons.

Mole Tunnels Are Dangerous to Pets and People
The mole tunnels are very dangerous to people especially if you step on one while running. You can fracture your leg since they will make you trapped affecting your running. Therefore, it is important to consider getting rid of the moles that create the molehills while digging tunnels. One case that has ever been reported on the molehills involved King of England who died after his horse stumbled on the mole tunnel after stepping on the molehill. Therefore, the mole tunnels are very dangerous especially if you have children living in your compound.

It is very important to get rid of the moles, and one method that is commonly used is setting the traps. Other people will also poison the moles when they realize molehills on their farm. This is done by lifting soil in one section of the molehill and inserting poisoned bait that the mole feeds on and dies of stomach irritations. However, this method is criticized by the people who advocate for human ways of killing rodents. Remember to cover the mole tunnels after killing the mole.
