Are Foxes Dangerous to Humans?

Foxes are extremely elegant creatures, proud and imposing. There has been a lot of debate as to whether or not they are dangerous to humans and pets. Of course, nobody can argue with the fact that foxes cannot be domesticated. So it goes without even saying that you should stay away from foxes and avoid confrontation with them.

Let’s see however which fear is justifiable and which one is not, concerning the dangers deriving from foxes. In this way, you will be able to identify the risks and deal with them promptly and effectively.

Foxes and Dangers to Men and Pets
Although foxes are not typically aggressive animals, when they feel threatened the situation might change. This means that foxes can defend themselves and attack the ones they feel threatened to. So you had better not approach the fox when you see it. It might feel that you are a threat to its den. So it will protect it no matter what.

Another thing that you need to pay attention to is the danger against pets and other animals. Obviously, the fox is not as large in size as you might expect. This happens because of its fur. But either way, a fox that is hungry will attack chickens and other small sized animals to feed. So you need to make sure that your pets are protected.

Apart from that, rabies is one more threat to consider. Even though it is rare a phenomenon for foxes to be rabid, there is always such a threat. So despite avoiding getting bitten by foxes, you should be swift in dealing with a potential bite. Rabies shots can be proven extremely helpful, without a doubt.

Foxes might also infect you through their feces. Bacteria and other threats might get spread through defecation, and therefore you should be very careful when cleaning up their mess. In avoidance of any negative consequences, you should always use gloves when cleaning the feces of foxes and other pests.

Bottom Line
As you can see, foxes are not particularly dangerous. They do not pose a real threat to humans, and they are only dangerous to animals, when they want to feed or when they feel threatened. They are predators, and you should never forget about that.

However, this does not mean that you should not avoid foxes. They are not domesticated animals. Instead, they ought to be treated like pests. When you are suspicious of their presence in your property, you should take all the preventive measures that allow your property to remain pests-free.

If you want to be kept safe, you ought to avoid confrontation with foxes and make sure that they do not get intimidated by your presence. Above anything else, you need to safeguard your home and make it less hospitable for foxes to visit and access.
