Is a Fox That Is Active during the Daytime Sick or Rabid?

There is wide misconception that foxes cannot be out in daylight. Of course, this is not true. Especially when a fox needs to find food, it is going to hunt out in the open. This means that foxes can be awake during the day and even approach people. However, typically foxes are not social and do not go near people that much. So if you find a fox that is active and behaves a bit strange, you should be cautious.

What Does It Mean for a Fox to Be Active in Daytime?
As mentioned above, the fox might just be awake and active in the daytime without any need to worry. There are quite a few reasons why this can happen. If a fox has young ones in the den, then it will need to come up with more food than usual. As a result, it is going to hunt during the day. Hungry foxes often approach households, especially if they have chickens and other domesticated animals.

Of course, there is always the fear of a rabid or sick fox. Rabies is not that common among foxes. Nevertheless, it can be dangerous. So if you get bitten by a fox, you should seek immediate medical attention. You may find it too much to go and have the rabies shot. But you need to be careful, and this is the best way to prevent any negative consequences.

You can get the rabies shot in any clinic or pharmacy. Instead of the stomach, you do that on the upper arm. The whole process does not take more than a few minutes to complete. And then, you can rest assured that even a rabid fox is not going to hurt you.

However, you need to keep in mind the following statistics; about five million people get bitten by dogs on an annual basis. If you search for similar statistics in foxes, the number is nowhere near. On the contrary, the overall number of people bitten by foxes is really small.

Get Rid of the Fox
Even if the fox is not rabid or sick, it still needs to be taken care of. You should be sure to prevent the fox from accessing your property in the first place. You can do that by installing fences and inclusion traps. In addition, you can use other preventive measures like electronic equipment with ultrasounds and LED lights. Bottom Line
Even though there is really no need for you to worry about a fox that is active during the daytime, you should still be kept safe. In the unfortunate event of being bitten by a fox, you should proceed with rabies shots, just to rest assured that you are not jeopardizing your health. If you are cautious, though, you will probably not get bitten, to begin with!
