How to Kill Flying Squirrels?

As opposed to the name of the flying squirrel, they do not necessarily fly; they use the skin flaps to glide and move from one tree to another. They will generally be found in wooded areas, but there are instances when they will choose to invade the urban areas. Most homeowners will not have any idea that they have a flying squirrel infestation unless they hear strange noises in their attics. Since they are nocturnal species, you will realize that you have a flying squirrel problem once your sleep has been disrupted by bizarre noises.

Methods to Kill Flying Squirrels
Before you proceed in killing the flying squirrel, understand that there are some laws that protect these species. Some killing methods may not also be legal to use depending on the area where you live. In the end, trapping is always the better option since they are not as destructive compared to the other control methods. Here are some of the methods that can possibly kill the flying squirrel.

Poisoning
When a flying squirrel is inside the house, most homeowners will choose to use poison to get rid of them. However, what will happen after the poisoning will be a cause of your anxiety and concern. Once you poison them, they will suffer before they will die. In addition, they are communal species which means that the other squirrels will also be poisoned if you manage to poison one of them. Dealing with the decaying carcass can also be a struggle. The parasite on the flying squirrel may also transfer to your pets once they die.

Shooting
Before you shoot the flying squirrel, make sure that using gun power is legal in your area. In case you are in the area where using gun does not break any rules and law, this is a possible option. Unfortunately, flying squirrels are agile creatures and can only be targeted by the expert marksman. In addition, there is a possibility that there are other flying squirrels in the area which means that shooting will not be effective in controlling the population of the creature.

Trapping
There are traps that can kill the flying squirrel. Unfortunately, it is not that common to find the flying squirrel on the ground. The creature is a good climber and will move from one place to another by gliding. They often converge on large numbers and buying lethal traps may not be a cost-effective solution.

Most homeowners will find out that killing the flying squirrels can be a struggle. It is not a suitable way to solve your infestation problem. A better solution would be to seek the help of the professionals. They have equipments and tools that they can use to humanely remove the flying squirrel out your property. They can also install exclusion device and live traps. They will perform an analysis on your property that can possibly prevent possible infestation in the future. They can seal all the possible entry points and remove them safely which prevents you from dealing with the decaying carcass.
