How to Trap or Exclude Flying Squirrels?

Squirrels are naughty creatures that jump from one tree to another as they seek shelter and food. They are noisy at night, and they can eat fruits around the compound especially the ripe ones. Since they fly or jump from one place to another, it is very hard to capture them because they always stay off the ground unless when it is time to eat. Animal removal services providers might not be in a position to help because these animals fly at night and they are always unpredictable on the route which they follow every particular day.

Set Exclusion Traps or Funnels
This method is effective to squirrels that are known to be occupying a certain space. You will measure opening in which you would like to put the funnel. After that, get a wire mesh that you will use to create the funnel and make the animal move from side to the outside of the place in which you don’t want the animal to be in. The exit of the funnel or exclusion material should have hooks that protrude outwards such that it will be easy for the animal to get out but hard to return inside the funnel again.

Set Live Traps with Baits
If you are sure the squirrels are not many around you compound, you can set live traps where you will ensure that every trap catches one squirrel. Set these traps in areas where you suspect they play in plenty of numbers. You should keep eatable materials that they love like fruits and other materials so that you make them enter inside the live trap. Once it is trapped, you can kill it directly without causing suffering, or you can go and dispose it away from your home so that it does not get access to your compound again.

Fencing and Using Deterrent Materials
Although fencing seems to be among the options of preventing squirrels, it does not help at all because these animals fly so they can easily use nearby tall trees to jump over your fence and get to your compound. Deterrent materials like sound or light can keep them away but not for long before they learn that those materials are not harmful to them. You can use poison if you see they are many, but you need to ensure that you collect all dead squirrels so that they don’t decompose in your compound and pollute your compound air.

The animal removal company might not be in a position to help in eliminating them, but they will assist you on the correct measures on how to get rid of them from your compound. Make sure that you follow the guidelines so that they don’t stay for long and multiply in your compound. If they stay for long, they can destroy crops, fruits and even drink and pollute water around. Their flying nature is what has made them to be hard to eliminate in many farms and homes.
