What Kind of Damage Can Beavers Cause?

Beavers are rodents that belong to the genus Castor. They live in the land and water as well, and they are known to construct dams and lodges for them to stay in. Where they live, they collect a lot of wood and other dry materials to make themselves stay comfortable and safe. Beavers are known to grow up to the size of a cat or even bigger and they can anything from cereals to insects and other small animals like lizards. They live nearby water banks because the mud that surrounds them cannot allow any kind of predators to cross the river and get access to them.

They Mostly Don’t Cause Damage
In the waters like rivers, they remove all the floating materials and use them to build a dam or a shelter for themselves. You will find protruding collection of structures in the water where they reside. The water, therefore, flows freely without being blocked by these kinds of woods. If there is no wood in the water and they want to create the lodges and dams, they go to the nearby forest and collect some so that they come and build a home for themselves. They don’t need polluted water, therefore, they remove all the floating and dirty materials on the water to ensure that they remain with clear water.

They Can Destroy Trees
With their big size, they eat the trees bottoms, and they can even make some young trees to fall. In the forest where no one is there t night to monitor the trees, they can eat all night thereby risking the lives of these trees. Sometimes they eat even cotton wood in farms and cause severe losses to the farmers. If there is no wood to eat, they can turn to the leaves of the trees and eat them all thereby making the plants not to be able to carry out photosynthesis hence they die.

If beavers invade plantations, many people will count losses because these animals eat a lot. They can even invade a fish pond and eat all the fish inside because they know how to swim. Make sure that you fence your compound and protect your plantation if you live in areas where these animals are found. In North America, these animals are plenty, and they can invade even gardens and destroy all the plants.

To conclude, beavers are animals that can cause damage, but at the same time, they can clean rivers and water ponds. The best way for preventing your home from these creatures is by fencing the plantations and water ponds. They can eat the barks of trees and leavers of the vegetation in your compound. If you see one or suspect one, set a live trap and bait it with fruits, you will catch it easily, and it will be easy for you to eliminate it out of your compound. Alternatively, make sure that you keep a barking dog that will scare them away.
